Coco
Coco

Coco

Domestic short hair - male

Abandoned, this litter of 6 kittens was fostered by two seperate rescue groups and we have three brothers in care.

The smallest of the three, Coco is a quiet, lovely playful and very affectionate little boy, always after cuddles and happy to purr to indicate pleasure. He has a very soft voice and is always found close to a human, where he will often flop while his brothers engage in rough play before joining them. When done playing, he will climb onto my lap or sit next to me for naps and is a very easy going kitten.

He has been raised in a home with young kids and is not stressed about being handled by them at all. He will make a lovely addition to any family, and we will be sorry to see him go to join an amazing family that will give him the play, love and attention he needs and deserves.

He is ready to meet potential families, though he won't be ready for his new home for another couple of weeks yet.

DCH Animal Adoptions relies solely on our adoption fees and the generous support of the community to continue our rescue work. Your support, however large or small, is greatly appreciated. If you would like to make a donation to support our rescue work, please go to our Donation page. All donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Red Bear
Red Bear

Red Bear

DSH - male

The legend of Red Bear. What a little battler Red Bear was when found very ill and lost at 3 weeks of age with no mummy but at least he still had is 2 little sisters with him. As you can see after his traumatic struggle early in life that he is now one health bouncy little boy who has a heart way bigger then himself with endless love to give. He would be perfect kitten for children as he loves them dearly, is not shy of other cats or dogs, so if you want a living legend then Red Bear is your boy. Red Bears only vice is he is cross eyed which does not hinder him at all, this just makes him even more adorable. The vet has confirmed that he does have limited vision as do all cross eyed creatures and that he needs to be an indoors cat especially at night as he will see nothing in the dark and could easily get lost or come to harm because of this. So if you are looking for your very own legend, then this boy is for you.

Red Bear is located at Greendale NSW

Jade
Jade

Jade

Domestic Short Hair - female

Jade is a sweet, affectionate little girl who is ready to find her forever home! Since being in care, Jade has really come out of her shell and developed into the playful, affectionate kitten that she is now.

She is always ready to greet you at the door for a cuddle and follows you around wherever you go in the hope of a snuggle, or a play! Jade loves to play but would suit a more quiet home, without small children, as she is can be scared easily.

Jade is good with other cats, but has not been tried with dogs.

Jade would prefer an indoor home where she can not be harmed by cars or stray animals.

She comes microchipped, with her two vaccinations, flea treated, desexed and litter box trained.

Shelby
Shelby

Shelby

German Short Haired Pointer x - female

Shelby is an unusual cross breed with beautiful striking eyes, one blue, one brown, which is typical of the breeds.

She is in wonderful health with a sleek physique, not an gram of fat.

Unfortunately she has not had the training her intelligent mind requires, so she needs ongoing discipline & guidance. she has been left to entertain herself in a backyard instead of being encouraged into agility or scent training. She would make an excellent companion for an active family.

Requiring at least an hours walk/exercise per day someone who enjoys cycling/athletics/sport/jogging/beach outdoor lifestyle would find her romping in heaven & loving you for it.

What is difficult for me to see is how she cowers when I show her hand signals, indicative of being smacked in the past, she has to learn that you are NOT punishing her when you ask for obedience. I use hand signals instead of words so that when I am out at the park my fosters learn to watch me & come with signal rather than me hollering across the park. To see her fall to the ground at the sight of a hand raised is hard but with time & patience she will learn to trust again.

This is not a breed for first time dog owners, she requires clear & consistent boundaries, a kind & confident leader who will ask for conformity & be rewarded with good behaviour.

With a busy mind intellectual stimulation should be encouraged. Both GSP & Catahoula dogs are bred to help hunters so by exploiting their natural instincts of finding through scent alone you are playing to their strengths & will reap the rewards of a loyal & contented dog.

She will NOT do well left alone in a yard all day while you work.

If you feel you can offer Shelby the home she so richly deserves please call to discuss.

Shelby was adopted on 20 February 2015 after 4 weeks in foster care

Aysha
Aysha

Aysha

Cattle Dog x - female

This is Aysha who was found wandering the streets of Fairfield after Christmas and she is now safe in foster care. Aysha is a female Australian Cattle dog cross, her actual age is unknown but from professional advice her age is estimated to be in the range of 2-4 years. Her teeth are very good and are indicative of a young healthy dog.

Now that Aysha is in foster care she has blossomed into an attentive and affectionate dog who loves the company of people and dotes on her foster carer and will ultimately dote on her new owner. She makes friends quickly with people and other similarly playful dogs.

In her former life it is apparent that she was not on a controlled diet and was not exercised enough, consequently she is overweight and not very fit. Since being fostered she has shed one or two kilos but her diet will need to be watched. She is not an active dog and will suit a working family who can take her for short walks at least 3 or 4 times a week. She is certainly not a jumper and a fence of 1m+ will contain her easily.

In the short time of her foster care Aysha has learnt her new name and will obediently return when called and will sit when ordered to sit. Most of the time on the leash Aysha will trot along happily by your side but when tempted by a strange smell will suddenly pull off to the side, needing a strong tug to bring her back alongside.

She is happiest being with her “humans” and all she asks for is care and attention and a bit of exercise. In the car she is quiet and usually sleeps but occasionally she loves to stick her nose out the window.

Aysha has a sweet nature and gets on very well with other dogs and is becoming tolerant to cats. She rarely barks even when left alone in the house and yard for this reason she should suit a working family. In the company of her carer Aysha is placid and friendly with children.
Typical of her breed, Aysha is a very good watchdog and may behave protectively if the carer/
